VPFA Update

We are almost there, the last week of the school year has arrived! I can hardly believe it, only four school days left (but who's counting?). This will be the last edition of the Valhalla Voice for the school year so here are a few final thoughts before we break for summer.

Last week we enjoyed the final performances of the year in Thor Hall. Wednesday after school we were treated to the Volunteer Tea, a lovely annual event sponsored by the teachers and staff to honor the parent and community volunteers who do so much all year long to assist teachers in classrooms and help our school run its programs and events. On Wednesday evening we enjoyed the highly anticipated Fifth Grade Colonial Play. The students worked very hard to learn their songs, lines and choreography, but their work pales in comparison to the time and energy spent by the fifth grade teachers to put together this amazing show. Between auditions, complicated scheduling, song and choreography practices, rehearsals, and Mrs. Shearer’s outstanding handmade costumes, this play was an enormous undertaking. Please take a moment to thank the fifth grade teachers for all their effort to make the play a success! Finally, on Thursday evening Thor Hall once again resonated with the sound of children’s voices at the Kindergarten Sing-a-long. There is something very special about seeing the progress of our youngest students over the course of the year and hear their beautiful voices singing the classic and patriotic songs we all love.

The All-in-One Walkthrough is scheduled for August 7 and we still need lots of volunteers to assist with the various jobs to process everyone through getting signed up for school. One of the perks of volunteering is that you get to arrive early and go through the process ahead of the crowd! Please contact incoming VPFA president Stephanie Martin at if you would like to help during All-in-One and process your forms ahead of everyone else. All forms and information will be available a few weeks ahead of the walk-through on the Valhalla website or in the office, if you need hard copies.

We wish the outgoing fifth grade students the best of luck as they continue their educational journey into middle school. We know with all that Valhalla has taught you that you will be brave and smart and make good decisions. And we also send out a warm hug to the fifth grade parents who are graduating out of Valhalla with their students (including me!). We are also on to new adventures and I think I can speak for most of us that we will miss our little Valhalla community.

Some final reminders:

Wednesday, June 6: 5th Grade Promotion, 8:30-10:00 AM followed by 5th grade party

Thursday, June 7 dismissal: 8:15-11:15 schedule for ALL Kindergarteners and 12:00 dismissal for grades 1-5

Tuesday, August 7: All-in-One Walk-through, 4:00-7:00 PM, Thor Hall

Thursday, August 16: First day of 2018-19 school year

After completing a successful 2017-18 school year, I would like to thank the parents who take time out of their busy lives to hold volunteer positions, the teachers and staff who put so much care and energy into teaching and supporting our children, and finally Mrs. Calbeck, without whom our school would only be ordinary, not excellent. As the school year concludes, so does my time as a Valhalla parent. I hope you all continue to volunteer and stay involved at school, showing your own children that volunteering is a wonderful endeavor.

Good luck to Valhalla and the VPFA!

Jen Vanya,

VPFA President

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." ~Anne Frank (born June 12, 1929)

Kudos to You!
