The Great Kindness Challenge Week January 22-26, 2018

We're doing it again!

The Great Kindness Challenge is a proactive and positive kindness initiative that improves school climate and increases student engagement. The Great Kindness Challenge is one week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible on campus. Using the provided checklist of 50 kind acts, students accept the challenge and show the world that KINDNESS MATTERS!

Be sure to support your students’ efforts in being kind next week and all year long.

VPFA Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in this week’s VPFA meeting and our dine-out fundraiser at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. Ongoing fundraisers include Growing Up Green at Sloat Garden Center (ends on Sun. 1/21) and Otis Spunkmeyer (orders are due by Wed. 1/24). And thank you to everyone who donated wine or craft beer at today’s first auction donation day. That’s a lot of stuff going on for one week!

The online auction and ValhalLove Boat live auction dinner dance are right around the corner. The auction is typically our biggest fundraiser of the year, but it’s also the most fun event of the year for the parents. Below is some information for parents who may be unfamiliar with how the auction works.

Why do we hold the auction every year? The auction is both a fun social event for parents and a huge fundraiser where the proceeds go right back to supporting our students and school programs. The money raised supports everything from purchasing items around the school, such as the umbrellas in the quad, to the assistance in our reading labs. It usually represents about one third of our annual budget.

Who participates? The online auction is open to the whole Valhalla community, including all parents, relatives, friends, teachers and staff. The live auction dinner dance is primarily attended by Valhalla parents but there are also some teachers and staff who attend. It's a fabulous way to get to know others in the Valhalla community. But you won’t be able to attend if you don’t get your tickets soon!

Here are some of the most important things to know about the auction:

  1. Ticket sales and more info are at https://valhalla.ejoinme.org/loveboat
  2. Flash Sales! On January 17 and 24, purchase discount-rate tickets in front of Thor Hall before and after school. Save $20 per couple!
  3. Send your teacher to the auction. When 10 tickets are sold in a class, your teacher gets to go for free!
  4. Stock up for the Wine and Craft Beer Donation Fridays: 1/19, 1/26, 2/2 & 2/9.
  5. Get ready for the online auction which will start on February 1! (You wouldn’t believe how high the bidding on a rabbit goes when parents are in the throes of a bidding war.)
  6. If you have questions or want to get be a part of the auction events, contact valhallaauction2018@gmail.com.

Stay dry and warm and have a pleasant weekend.
